Hi

I am a photographer and passionate about history. Through A Look into the Past, I seek to rescue the visual memory of our cities and communities, connecting the present with the heritage and roots that define us. This project unites my love for photography with the commitment to preserve and share the cultural identity of our people.

About me

I was born in Colonia Larrañaga, a small rural place that is part of the deep interior of Uruguay. There I grew up surrounded by family stories and an early curiosity for the past. Eventually, life and studies took me to Colonia del Sacramento, a city that welcomed me with its heritage charm and living history. It was there that I discovered one of my great passions: photography. Without knowing it at the time, I began to weave a connection between image and history that, over the years, would give shape to this project.

In addition to training as a photographer, I studied audiovisual production, business administration, marketing, communication and project development. Currently, I am continuing my training in cultural heritage. Although at first glance these paths may seem disparate, each has provided me with key tools to conceive, develop and sustain A look at the past with a comprehensive and solid vision.

I lived abroad for two years, first in New Zealand and then in Germany. It was the distance that allowed me to see more clearly the value of our roots. I realised that every village, every town, every family has unique stories that deserve to be told. Thus, A Look into the Past became a way of paying homage to those places, people and moments that built what we are today.

In Germany, I was able to develop A Look into the Past in collaboration with local cultural institutions, which allowed me to expand the project to a different scale and learn new ways of approaching heritage. This experience not only strengthened my vision, but also provided me with valuable tools that I am now applying in Uruguay, giving a new impetus to this initiative.

Through the combination of old and present images, I seek to build bridges between generations, to rescue the beauty of the past and bring it to the present, to keep the collective memory alive.

This path is not mine alone. It belongs to all those people who have been touched by an old photograph, who keep family portraits in a box or who, walking through their city, manage to see what is no longer there, but still lives on in their memory.
